Be busy or be productive?

This article was inspired by an acquaintance I ran into on my way for lunch. A student in the Final year session of her studies at a Polytechnic (don't ask for names, please).

She's back home for a 2-month holiday and she tells me, "I just came into town three days ago and I am already tired; am just home, don't have much to do and it's wearing me out. To think that I have two months to stay is literally killing me!" "I wish I can find something- anything- to keep me busy; get me out of the house in the morning, every morning" she laments.

Have you been in that situation or met anyone who complained like that?

Do you know many, many persons live like this? I mean, they are busy, very busy, but they never take a moment- maybe 15mins- to ask themselves: am I being productive? Am I actually making progress or  just burning time?

Someone has rightly said that every wasted time is a wasted opportunity.

  but All I seem to see

  Expecting sympathy..."

I don't want to define how you run your life, all I want is to provoke a question you alone can answer for yourself: Are you busy or you are being productive?

I sat at a table last wednesday morning with a cup of tea, idly turning the liquid and viewing the scene around me.
You know, an ability each and everyone of us possess is the ability to put on a smile irrespective of the situation.
I once saw a quote which stated 'we all pretend to be happy' and I realized just how true that is.


Okay you might not prefer the word 'pretence'. Well, 'try' seems a better word then...'We all try to be happy'
Situations happen in life that test our resolve to keep calm and happy. We lose a loved one, help someone and what we get in return is hurt, we make mistakes that live with us and hunt us, we make efforts to be better people but see ourselves back tracking...sometimes it gets to that point where the world seems like its coming down on us, choking our very breath till all that's left is to give up.


One thing and only one thing matters the most...how you react to /handle these situations.
I see mothers, fathers, spinsters, bachelors even children strive to gain control over their pains; rising above them and maintaining happiness.


Hurt has no power over you, sorrows have no power over you, YOU have the control of yourself, YOU have the right to be happy, YOU should tell yourself nothing's greater than God's love for me, no pain's going to take away my joy, no struggle's going to take away my peace...don't let your past, your mistakes dictate your life; pick up their lessons and let these provide beautiful interlocking pathways for your future Give excuses for those who hurt you...learn to let things go.
You deserve to be happy.

The occasion was the one year anniversary of AirPeace Limited and hundreds of dignitaries, employees, family, friends and business associates gathered in the warm weather to celebrate at the Sheraton Hotel Banquet Hall.

It was an evening of glitz, glamour, style and a galaxy of personalities in the corporate world as well as from the Aviation industry. Ebuka Obi Uchendu anchored the event. Among dignitaries that graced the occasion were Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Mr Timi Alaibe, MD FAAN, Prince Isa Bayero who represented the emir of kano palace, MD & ED of Fidelity bank, Former MD of shell, former DG of NCAA, NCAA Cabin inspector Madam Julie Obumselu, Chairman of century electronics Chief Ifeanyi Obiora, CEO’s of companies, other Captains of industries, Politicians and off course Airpeace’s ambassador Kçee who performed alongside Harrysong to thrill the guest and got us all dancing.

It was a perfect atmosphere to show case the uniqueness of the brand AIRPEACE LIMITED and also unveil our new Loyalty Program for our frequent fliers called ‘PEACE ADVANTAGE’.

Next to him was Mr Leonard Olisakwe who also received Best Station Manger of the year. Other categories were Best cabin crew of the year, Cabin crew personality of the year,

Most creative cabin crew of the year, Most passenger friendly pilot of the year, Highest flown pilot of the year, Exceptional leadership of the year and Best office assistance of the year. Awards were also given to our top 3 travel partners.




It’s been one year of safety, great success and exceptional service with class and I’m privileged to be part of its birth. It has been an amazing experience working with the entire management and staff of Airpeace.



For those of you who haven’t heard of Airpeace (which I doubt ). Airpeace Limited is a privately owned airline operating within the Nigerian Aviation Industry. Airpeace Limited operates scheduled commercial flights out of the General Aviation Terminal (GAT). Currently we fly to Abuja, Owerri, Enugu, Lagos, Calabar, Kebbi and Port Harcourt with more routes commencing soon within Nigeria and West African Countries. Not to worry, I will update you with relevant info before commencement.

On my subsequent aviation article, I will introduce you to the Chairman/CEO of the reputable Airline. A man who despite his status has great integrity and humility. Today is not that day I want to talk about my chairman Barr Allen Onyema. He deserves his own article.

AIR PEACE: your peace, our goal

Big Chop
Being the easiest way of going natural, one hardly encounters issues with this method. Every treatment done is in direct contact with the natural hair-since chemical-treated ends have been cut off- hence, ensuring a 'well-fed' hair.
After the bigchop, styling of the hair is quite limited as you'd most often rock a TWA(Teeny Weeny Afro). A TWA anyway can be rocked in a 'wash 'n' go'. A Wash 'n' Go simply means washing the hair and applying a natural styling gel(eco-styler gel, jack5, spiralicious are some natural gels which can be used). After applying the product of your choice, massage it gently into your hair using your fingers and you're good to go (don't comb)

In as much as we want a long healthy mane, we should 'keep it simple'. Don't go overloading your hair and thinking 'the more treatments, the better'...just pick a regimen and stick to it.

Every regimen must include moisturizing the hair. Moisturizing can be done in more than one way; spritz the hair or deep condition; both can be done although not at the same time.

CRY IT OUT.....

Sometimes it's best to cry it out, cry till you're satisfied. When people insult you because of your present status (unemployed, of age but not yet married, broke,etc), it breaks you, it hurts you but be reminded that the God you serve hasn't abandoned you, be sure to know that He has better plans for you, be sure to know that these people are ignorant of God's promises towards you.

Sadly, some people do not understand that as much as things are going easy for them, going smooth for them, it doesn't make them God's favourite, it doesn't make them God's chosen or the apple of God's eye. Until most people walk down that rough road, until they pass through that tunnel that dark tunnel before the light at the end, they'd never appreciate God's mercies. 

I would someday share a personal story, I just need to be convinced within myself to do so and i'll definitely write in.

Happy Sunday people. Hope you went to church o. Mass today was totally uplifting and yes I had a chat with a few friends after mass, fun time!!! 

So I got back home and thought of experimenting, been day dreaming of having a cup of cocktail made by me, myself and I. I already had a tutorial on it with my sister but you know how laziness can always want to mess with you sometimes yea? Aha....oh well, I sent for; 

• Cucumber, 
• Oranges
• Lemon
• A can of fanta
• A can of sprite
• Grenadine syrup which doesn't cost much
• Agostura bitters jut to have a lil alcohol.

My sister and I cut the cucumber in a round shape and some in tiny pieces, I got a clean jug,poured in half of the grenadine syrup since I was making for the whole family, poured in the fanta and sprite, squeezed in the oranges (2 of them), squeezed the lemon (just 1) then a little quantity of agostura bitters, poured in the cucumber (the small pieces) , then mixed all, had to taste to know if it was too sweet, now it depends on how you want it, I had to add little water, but it was still really great. Oh, I also had to pour some of the fanta into the ice tray, instead of water, for those who would need ice,so fanta still retains the sweetness even when it dissolves inside. And our home made cocktail is made. That's a new thing I've done *laughs*. Don't worry I promise to improve.

The talented Keyboardist and Gospel Artiste, Pastor Uvie Mafuru, well known as P.U, has followed his love for Music and committed his life to writing and singing songs that bring healing to the Nations of the world. He has ministered alongside the Man of God, Pastor Chris at various ministry programs in Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe, US, Canada and the United Kingdom. He  released his debut album “Greater Heights” in November 2012 and dropped the single “You Are A Wonder” in February 2013. P.U as he is called has worked with the likes of Adaehi, Sinach, joepraize, just to mention a few.

P.U is set to drop another album, titled "My everything". We expect nothing less from this powerful singer.

The journey, The decision, The wait.....

While in secondary school, we already think of gaining admission into tertiary institutions. The anxiety, the freedom, the independence, the joy of being called an undergraduate sets in. The last stage of the secondary comes through, and *yipee* we made it through, good grades and yes that other dreadful exam- JAMB, we sit for it, hold on for days, back then we waited for months for the result, thanks to technology. Yes, yes, yes....we scored above 200, choice of school (check), accommodation (check), department (check). A new life is upon us, 4 years, 5 years, 6 years....number of years for our different courses. The excitement of being an undergraduate stays in our hearts for a while, we want to explore, we try to belong, we want to be noticed, we want to hide, we want to be the best dressed, whatever category, we just have to fit in. A semester gone, it begins to sink in, school isn't as easy as we though it would be. Oh no, the grades are weak and to some, oh yes, yes, i'm doing just good. 

Three years down and all we think of is "oh God, when do we graduate??? I'm so sick and tired of this school, want to get a job, want to start my family, want to this, want to that...... the struggle to write project, defend, clearance and yes the final lap, service, still excited about graduation not realising we have to serve our fathers' land for just a year, we get caught up in the khaki, we feel it's a rest period out of school. Then we sleep and up the next morning.....POP comes to us. Welcome to the favor market, oh lots of prayers, lots of promises ( don't worry dear, once you have your statement of result and your NYSC certificate) I will fix you up somewhere. 

Now the real world awaits us, the hustle begins in full force. The submission of cvs, the wait, the interviews, the unfulfilled promises. A messenger of hope comes through and it rings to our hearts, "go for a certification" and to some "go for your masters" and to some "just accept that 40k job, afterall you just finished", we pick one or two or none. The decision we make is what we live with. And the race continues......

Attention span....

Those who say relationships are all moments of bliss and euphoria aren't totally wrong but they miss to talk about the down side. Because good relationships have those "down days". Relationships are all about feelings. Love isn't just happy times, it is terrifying especially knowing you're neck-deep in love, it can be nasty. 

Truth is, if you have to be in a relationship, you have signed up for the roller coaster ride. You need to step out of the "fairy tale" living. 

Was having a chat with a friend today and she was all about her relationship, in her words, "Clare, I don't understand again o, when I met **** we were all lovey lovey, he calls every minute, you know, I was the reigning queen at the Mo' but 7 months down, he doesn't call as often as he used to, hardly would notice my new hair, his attention isn't the same as it used to be.......And then she asked, "why does the attention reduce after a while??? She says it's the "see-finish syndrome". 

Well I'm sure one or two would have an answer to this question.

So guys, why does you attention span fade after a while in a relationship???

• Change should begin from the inside
• Present your body to God to use
• Resist the temptation to abuse your body
• Don't idolize or over-pamper your body
• Take proper care of your body - keep it clean, eat good food, sleep well, exercise etc.

From previous posts, we see the first steps to 'gaining hair freedom' is;
1)The decision; Transition or instant Bigchop
2)Sham wash;washing with a sulphate-free shampoo
3)A good Hair regimen; I gave a simple hair regimen I selected.

I shall discuss each extensively today and in subsequent weeks;

Transitioning
So many naturalistas find it a whole lot easier having an instant bigchop than transitioning...transitioning is actually quite a handful when compared to the bigchop...I transitioned for about a year before having my big chop though
'NEED-TO-KNOW while transitioning'
In transitioning, you deal with two different hair textures which is why you should not fail to give your hair TLC(Tender Loving Care)
Your hair will tend to break at the point where your chemical-treated ends meet your natural hair, due to this, regular trimming of the relaxed ends is highly advisable. In applying your natural treatments, you should ensure they get to your roots and come in contact with the natural parts(undergrowth) too.
A spritz bottle is a must have for every naturalista. It contains 80%water and 20% oil of your choice and should be sprayed twice daily to the hair to keep it moisturised. For how a spritz bottle is, see the picture after this cut;

During transitioning and after, a good hair regimen should not be overlooked(we'll discuss the hair regimen later on).
Washing hair weekly with a sulphate-free shampoo(sham wash) or a sulphate-free conditioner(co wash) should be at the top on your to-do-list. Be sure to shamwash either once a week or once a month and not too often as regular shamwash strips the hair of its natural oils

    LET'S MEET YOU...

My name is Jonathan Houston.  I am the author of my first book Here I AM, by which I was commissioned to write at 9 years old after an instance when my Christian mother had again terrorized me in our home. The Father in Heaven had personally asked me to write a book journaling my abusive past, specifically those of my Christian mother— all the world will know why so many abuses and painful secrets go hidden, so all parents will know to review those whom watch their child by surveying their heart and not their charm or credentials, so all the world will know that secrets can destroy a person, a family, a lineage, a city, a state and local government, and even the greatest nation in the world. I was born in Los Angeles, CA when my parents together left the southern states to chase a dream to be successful actors (In the 1800s men would chase gold.  At the end of the 20th century men and women chased the dream of being a star.  Only few come up with plenty; the rest come up empty.).

    HOW WAS GROWING UP LIKE???

Within the first 3 years of my life my parents moved to divorce.  I was now raised thousands of miles away from the heart of my lineage, and I lived in a single-parent home with my mother. My father has always been very much in my life.  Many of my abuses have stemmed from daycares, camps and persons my parents trusted with me whom were outside our family circle of friends.  There was no abuse that could compare to the abuse laid bare by my Christian mother.

While both of my parents carried the same aspirations to be a star and have a successful acting career, the heavy laden of financial burdens rested on my mother’s shoulders.  Ultimately her tension was often released via brash abuses which began being inflicted upon me prior to reaching the age of 4.  Many have become humorously accustomed to the saying “beat me like a runaway slave”; moreover, this was my life within the confines of my home.  Since my mother’s profession served as an actress, and her image was a heightened concern, my mother knew how to change my mood to a joyous one when we were visiting company or when company was visiting us (This was usually following an abusive happening with my mother). 

   HOW DID YOU GO THROUGH THE ABUSES???

One of the many reasons no one knew of the abuses being hurled on me from my Christian mother, is because I did have an honest smile when my mother was indeed kind to me.  The second reason is because abuse was introduced in my life so early I thought it was a natural part of life.  I didn’t even admit I was abused until I was about 19 years old while learning the hints of a child being abused in my Child Psychology course while studying in my Undergraduate courses.  The third reason is because I was a meek child.  You would have to draw such information out of me; you would also have to know that I was abused to ask the right questions to get it out of me.  Hence, no one knew I was being abused.

My mother has always been a very kind and giving woman.  She is charming and loving to many people.  She reads the word of God and she is especially encouraging and insightful unto many, always using the word of God to bring peace and speak peace to many.  She is even hailed today as being head of the Foster Care/Adoption Committee in her church for nearly 25 years.  My mother has much clout and esteem in her surroundings.  This truth of her was a deception to every man and woman outside our home.  It was even a deception unto me as a child.  For so many years I sought to appeal to that “revered’ side.  Still, the abuse carried on until I was 13 years old.  When it stopped, her verbal abuse intensified, and in two of my teenage years I became a masochist: one who cuts his own flesh.  Moreover, my mother was not the core of my masochism.  She was merely the kerosene thrown on the fire.

   

   YOU'VE NEVER MENTIONED DAD'S CONTRIBUTION...

My masochism arose because since the time of my father’s marriage when I was 10 years old, he has always portrayed in his actions having to choose whom he should love more, his wife or me.  He never learned that he didn’t have to choose; all he had to do was love each of us separately with the love God gave him.  As a result, my relationship with my father has always often been stricken, on the rocks, or even threatened to be no more on one occasion, because my relationship with his wife carried much tension.   

These are the reasons why I began to hate and desire to move away from Christianity.  Moreover, the only reason I am a Christian is because Jesus, the person, had been visiting me all along.  He taught me how to love: to love beyond the knowledge of good and evil, since what you know about someone corrupts how you love someone.  He taught me how to forgive.  He taught me how to honor my mother, and understand what He calls honor, even if my mother was my primary abuser.  He taught me how to depend on His fatherhood.  He even taught me that He had his own relationship with the Father which was separate from God’s children and the Holy Spirit (This was something I sought to implement with my own children.).

   HOW HAS IT BEEN HAVING YOUR OWN FAMILY???

Today I am a married man with four children. I have been married for over 7 years. My first son came literally 9 months after we got married: a “Honeymoon baby”.  My greatest relaxation is watching them grow, play, roll around and play practical jokes on me.  I get the greatest peace knowing that they have not been touched, mishandled, or neglected.  My son is almost 6 ½ years old.  At his age I had already been abused, molested, and tortured a number of times.  He will never know what it’s like for his own parent to abuse him.  He will never lack having a father whom loves him unconditionally, since I have personally asked the Lord to judge me every year from his mercy seat in every area of my life.

 WHAT HAS BEEN PEOPLES' REACTIONS AFTER WRITING "HERE I AM"?

Since I have written Here I AM many of my family/friends cannot understand how I was abused.  Much of my family/friends cannot compute how all of a sudden I am stating that I have had face-to-face appearances, and other visitations from the Lord, since I was almost 4 years old.  Much of the confusion comes from me just now deciding to talk about it.  The answer is quite simple.  

I have had the lifelong struggle to make one decision.  I have had to choose: (1) to not break my mother’s heart and destroy her reputation by telling the truth or (2) to testify of my true relationship of Jesus and how it came about.  Since God is God and Jesus, who is the Son of God, has always been faithful to me, even before I was born, I chose to follow Jesus.  I wrote this book in obedience to the Godhead (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost).  

  WHAT WILL BE YOUR ADVICE TO THE YOUNG ONES???

To the children whom are being abused, neglected, tortured and/or molested, I say to you.  Jesus is near.  He has not left you comfortless.  Even if you cannot see Him, He is there with you.  You must know that a moment of pain is worth a lifetime of glory, even if that moment of pain is 15 years long.  God truly desires to make you great—His ways are not your ways; He did not send the evil that was done to you.  He will avenge you, and He will do it with love.  He will teach you how to love those whom hurt you, betray you, disappoint you, and even seek to do evil toward you, even if they are your own family.  The biggest joy you can have is that you love and have the boldness to share your testimony regardless of what people say to you.  That, my friend, is freedom.  

My life will teach my children to be willing to stand for truth (whom is a person and not information: Jesus) even if it means your very life.  This is the example my Lord displayed on the cross.  I’d rather lose the world, friends, family, and all, to gain Jesus, then to gain favor from men and lose even a fraction of intimacy with Jesus.

Our Story!

We all have been through one drama in our lives, for some of us, it's been stages of drama. Today we think we have had all of it but then a different drama plays out. For some, it has been the relationship drama, family drama, marriage drama, academics, un-employment, should-have-been best friend drama, disappointment, and so on. To some, they wonder why they have to go through these horrible phases, almost like a cycle. They start a new routine today, it looks interesting, everything seems just okay, happiness sips in and BOOM, back to the very beginning, it goes down, pain comes in, nothing seems to be working again, the used to be good time turns out sour and now, we are back to square one.

A senior friend of mine, beautiful, classy, intelligent shared a story with me just last week, quite disturbing and touching. I met her some years back during service year, I realised she wasn't so friendly with guys, she was always on the edge, always irritated, always arguing with them. She could take some kind of insults from ladies but not from a man. I summoned courage and asked why she was always quick to anger and she told me a bit of her story, and it boiled down to disappointment. Apparently she was in a long relationship, both families knew about it, there were promises of marriage and future, only for her to realise he had a family outside the country. Years after service, she stayed single, no job and after three or four years, God blessed her with a good job and she had to relocate. Life started to take a different shape, she had a reason to be happy again. Just few months after relocation, she found this hunk (permit me to use the word) who made her life and stay in her new environment even better. Interestingly, she got the whole zoo in her stomach and not butterflies this time, she was so excited about it. This is the same lady who never changes her Dp for anyone, her Dp on bbm was all about her, her family, her best friends and a few of us (chosen friends) #winks, but it was new, she always had his picture on her dp,hmmmm, my friend was in love. She called me some months back to tell me how interesting her life has been, how she prays I find my mr.right soon and that moment came, you know that moment, we (ladies) always wait for, the "will you marry me" moment, oh yes, it came through, and we were so happy, pictures rolled and hey, it was a new beginning.
