Efficiency over Relationship
In this part of the country, it's a case of my son, my friend's son, my girl, my girl's best friend, my ex girl friend's sister or brother, my in law or....... to get a job even when they know nothing about the position you're offering them. They just need to get a job, no interview, no test, just pull a table and chair, a.c on, fix their names with the H.R. They don't even consider the second class upper thing again. But I met someone yesterday who said: "I choose efficiency to relationship any day".
There are lots of people who actually can fit into a certain position but for the simple fact you don't fall into any of the above mentioned "tree of relationship", no job for you. Really sad though, #hehe, but that's the country we live in.

ReplyDeleteDear writer, look, even if you have been victimized on this ground, don't believe that this is the country you live in- you can't get positions without connections. No, never ever believe that! If you tell yourself that, you're done! Your mind will go to sleep, you will give up and become a victim of the corruption.
ReplyDeleteYou need to understand that you are unstoppable! Read "Your Mind is Your Capital" article on this blog.
I await your reply.
You don't give up in such circumstances, you think better, and work for yourself. Let's not pretend we are not aware this happens. I personally have been in situations where people got chosen over me 'cos of the mere fact they were directed by someone. It only made me "up" my game. It never made me give up.
DeleteBut when you say my good result isn't it anymore it's connection that matters, something is set in motion in your mental process that is ultimately negative. So I say ignore that minor issue, not pretend that it doesn't exist.
ReplyDeleteMany have been employed based on their stellar performance so you too can have the same opportunity.
Very true honey, many like you said got in based on their performance but doesn't change the fact that others get in through "relationships". It's just a known fact but shouldn't have any negative effect. There are lots of things that happen wrongly we know about but have no effect on us.
DeleteHave you heard that 'as a man thinketh so is he'? That is the power of a mind-set.
ReplyDeleteAm not saying that positions are not gotten based on relationships but what I am saying is ignore that- don't allow it get into your mind-set.
Lemme give you an example. Have you (maybe) sent an application or done something and not expect anything (or reply) back? Well, I have. Think about getting a job in Shell. Generally, ppl will tell you if you don't have an insider push, then forget it!
After my graduation, I went to a cybercafé (then) for browsing and saw ongoing recruitment at Shell, it was in my field and I was qualified. So I applied but with all I have heard- Na connection to enter Shell, who do you know?- I didn't even bother expecting anything, at I least I applied for it because I had some instant minutes I needed to exhaust. So I didn't even go back to check my email whether there was an invite for test or anything. Now, after a little while, I went to a cybercafé again for browsing guess what I saw when I checked my inbox? My invitation from Shell for test and another email asking why I didn't attend the recruitment exercise. I was devastated!
Till this day, I never had an invite again from Shell. I lost an opportunity for foolish thinking!
Think possibilities! How many can admit to you they were horrible at an interview as such they lost the job? No, not many. They'll prefer to hind behind conspiracies.
